1How to play

  1. Pick a deck - there are 107 of them, from Act It Out to Films to Emojis. Four are free forever; the rest come with Act Up Pro.
  2. Choose a round length, then hold the phone against your forehead, screen facing your friends.
  3. They act it out. Tilt down when you guess right, tilt up to pass.
  4. When the timer runs out you'll see your score and every prompt from the round.

2Common questions

The game is stuck in portrait▾

Act Up's menus are landscape by design; for a portrait round, turn on Vertical on the timer screen before you start. If your device is locked to portrait, open Control Centre (iOS) or Quick Settings (Android), turn rotation lock off, then reopen the app.

Tilting doesn't register▾

Tilt uses your device's motion sensors. Check you granted the motion permission - on iOS look under Settings → Act Up. Also tilt through a decisive angle rather than a small nudge; a gentle tip often isn't enough to trigger it.

Can I play offline?▾

Yes - completely. Every deck is bundled into the app. There's nothing to download, nothing to sign into, and it works fine in airplane mode.

What languages are supported?▾

Act Up plays in 72 languages, including English, Spanish, Arabic, Hindi, Japanese and Russian, each with its own translated decks (a few decks are only available in some languages). Switch language in Settings.

Can I add my own words?▾

Yes. Create a custom deck in the app, name it, and add as many prompts as you like. Custom decks live on your device and play exactly like the built-in ones.

Recording a round isn't working▾

Round recording works on iPhone and Android. It needs camera and microphone permission (on iPhone, also photo library access to save the result) - check your phone's Settings → Act Up if you declined any of those. On Android phones that can't run two cameras at once it records the front camera only, and on Android 8 and 9 a clip can be shared but not saved to the gallery. Recording also needs free storage; a full device will make it fail.

How do I delete my data?▾

Your settings, custom decks and recordings live only on your device; deleting the app removes them (recordings you saved to your photo library stay until you delete them). The app also sends anonymous usage events and your subscription status, keyed to a random device id, never your name. Deleting the app discards that id. Full detail, including how to ask us to delete matching data, on the privacy page.

What's free, and how does Act Up Pro work?▾

Four decks are free forever (Act It Out, Animals, Impressions and Emotions), with unlimited rounds, and so is any deck you make yourself. Act Up Pro unlocks all 107 decks and is an auto-renewing subscription (weekly or yearly; any free trial or intro price is shown before you confirm) bought through the App Store or Google Play. Cancel any time in your store account: iOS Settings → your name → Subscriptions, or Play Store → Payments & subscriptions. Deleting the app does not cancel. Reinstalled? Tap Restore Purchases on the paywall or in Settings. Refunds go through Apple or Google. Full terms on the Terms page.

I found a wrong or offensive prompt▾

Tell us the deck and the prompt and we'll fix it in the next update. We'd much rather hear about it than not.

3Report a bug

Email us with these and we can usually fix it fast:

  • Your device and OS version (e.g. iPhone 15, iOS 18.4)
  • The app version - bottom of the Settings screen
  • What you expected, and what happened instead
  • A screenshot or screen recording if you can grab one

4Accessibility

Act Up supports system text sizing and respects the reduce-motion setting. If something about the game is hard to use, tell us - that's useful feedback and we do act on it.
